Louisville Historic Tours invites you on a tasty stroll exploring Kentucky’s gastronomic traditions in Old Louisville, America’s Grandest Victorian Neighborhood. Long known for its spectacular architecture and old-world charm, Old Louisville also has links to many beloved regional specialties such as burgoo, benedictine, and modjeskas. During this leisurely gastro walk, participants will learn about Kentucky’s rich culinary heritage while visiting sites associated with the legendary bourbon barons and famous foodie figures such as Jennie Benedict who left their mark on the city. The best part will be “the magic picnic basket” and the complimentary samples inside. Savory treats include benedictine finger sandwiches, pimento cheese, mini hot browns, corn muffins, and pork tenderloin with henry bain sauce. Those with a sweet tooth will be treated to modjeskas, taffy, old-fashioned fruit cake and more. A highlight of the tour will include a bourbon ball sampling during a stop at the Old Louisville Candy Company, makers of world-famous Happy Balls. Most items come from David Domine’s cookbooks A Feast for the Eyes and Adventures in New Kentucky Cooking as well as famous Kentucky recipe collections such as The Cabbage Patch Cookbook and Out of Kentucky Kitchens by Marion Flexner.

IMPORTANT! Space is limited! Please call or text 502-718-2764 to confirm availability when purchasing tickets the same day as the tour. We require a minimum number for this tour; if we must cancel, you will be notified within 24 hours of the tour. Also, we cannot accommodate special requests for dietary or allergy restrictions.

All tours start and end in front of the brown "Welcome to Old Louisville" sign at the southwest corner of Fourth and Ormsby, about a mile straight down the road from the historic Brown Hotel in downtown Louisville. Be mindful of your surroundings, as you would in any larger city. If you're parking on the street, do not leave valuables in plain sight in your vehicle. We recommend avoiding the Oak Street area around Fourth Street if you are walking from the downtown area, especially at night. If you are looking for a dinner spot after your tour, consider Buck's Restaurant or Amici Cafe, both of which are just a half block away. The Dupont Mansion bed and breakfast, the Louisville Bourbon Inn, and the Central Park Bed & Breakfast are all within a block. St. James Court and the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum are about three blocks away, on the other side of Central Park.

This leisurely tour generally takes about 2 hours and involve 1.5 miles of walking, with stops every block or two. Wear sensible shoes! Although there are bumpy patches here and there, people in wheelchairs have very few problems on our tours. By purchasing tickets, you agree to release David Domine's Louisville Historic Tours and its agents from all liability during your time in the neighborhood, as well as during your travel to and from Old Louisville.

Please treat your tour tickets as you would theater or concert tickets. IF YOU MISS YOUR TOUR, THERE ARE NO REFUNDS! If you arrive late and the group has already departed, it is up to you to find your guide. Because these are walking tours, weather plays an important role; tours that are cancelled because of inclement conditions will be refunded or rescheduled. In the case of manageable rain, bring an umbrella!

Your tour guide is food writer and cookbook author David Dominé. Since 2004, he has offered Old Louisville's original guided walking tours! Louisville Historic Tours is recommended by The New York Times! Check us out on Facebook and TripAdvisor!
